The digital roll out plan on Monday got a big boost after the government signed a Sh1.2 billion (10 million Euros) loan with the Spanish government in support of the anticipated switch over. The funds will be utilized to convert 10 selected sites in the country from analogue to digital broadcasting using land based infrastructure on DVB-T2 platform which transmits compressed digital audio, video, and other data. Colombia's Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) has issued a resolution upgrading the main technical parameters for DTT reception equipment. The minimum requirements are a DVB-T2 tuner version 1.3.1; 6 MHz channel, MPEG-4 H.264 digital video system part 10; support for single or multiple PLP transmission mode; and DVB-T2 demodulation capacity. In addition, the regulator has introduced the obligation that DTT service operators should guarantee at least an acceptable signal level for fixed reception for the main digital channel. DVB has been selected for the ABU Green Broadcasting Award in recognition of DVB-T2 as a revolutionary technology that, compared to all other terrestrial distribution technologies, has the highest potential to reduce transmission related greenhouse emissions. When comparing to other terrestrial systems and keeping all other parameters such as payload and coverage equal, DVB-T2 only requires between 10 and 25% of the power. Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) selected DVB-T2 as the standard for Thailand's digital television broadcasting and the proposal was approved by the government in 2012 as part of the "Go Digital Thailand" project.
