Argentina Operator to Migrate to DVB-T2

Buenos Aires based pay-TV operator Argentine Antina will migrate to DVB-T2 early 2014. This change will allow the service to improve its quality and expand its range of services, while lowering its spectrum requirements. Antina has already started to add new HD services and set-top boxes. Antina is a pay DTT operator that covers the Greater Buenos Aires. It has two service models, one prepaid and another based on a monthly subscription. The basic plan offers between 55 to 61 channels. Read More

Kenya gets 10 million Euro grant for digital migration

The digital roll out plan on Monday got a big boost after the government signed a Sh1.2 billion (10 million Euros) loan with the Spanish government in support of the anticipated switch over. The funds will be utilized to convert 10 selected sites in the country from analogue to digital broadcasting using land based infrastructure on DVB-T2 platform which transmits compressed digital audio, video, and other data. The government has set December 13 as the official switch over date for Nairobi and other areas will follow in a phase-out plan intended to make Kenya digital broadcasting compliant by June next year. Colombian regulator updates parameters for DTT reception

Colombia's Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) has issued a resolution upgrading the main technical parameters for DTT reception equipment. The minimum requirements are a DVB-T2 tuner version 1.3.1; 6 MHz channel, MPEG-4 H.264 digital video system part 10; support for single or multiple PLP transmission mode; and DVB-T2 demodulation capacity. In addition, the regulator has introduced the obligation that DTT service operators should guarantee at least an acceptable signal level for fixed reception for the main digital channel. Finally, the DTT network configuration must enable minimum channel adjustments from 8 MHz to 6 MHz. Read More

DVB Receives ABU Green Broadcast Award

DVB has been selected for the ABU Green Broadcasting Award in recognition of DVB-T2 as a revolutionary technology that, compared to all other terrestrial distribution technologies, has the highest potential to reduce transmission related greenhouse emissions. When comparing to other terrestrial systems and keeping all other parameters such as payload and coverage equal, DVB-T2 only requires between 10 and 25% of the power. This allows broadcasters to optimize their network either for higher capacity or lower power consumption. Read More

Thailand Prepares for Digital Switchover with DVB-T2

Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) selected DVB-T2 as the standard for Thailand's digital television broadcasting and the proposal was approved by the government in 2012 as part of the "Go Digital Thailand" project. Nigeria: Digital Migration - Conference Appraises Africa's Readiness

The third edition of Digital Dialogue took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, last week where experts appraised the readiness of stakeholders in Africa not to be caught napping at the expiration of the July 2015 deadline for digital migration. For the global broadcasting world, there is a frenzy of activities at present as various governments and stakeholders continue to educate, inform and create awareness about the digital migration, movement from analogue to digital television broadcasting. This is because all countries with the exception of a couple of territories are scheduled to complete the migration from analogue to digital television broadcasting by June 17, 2015, according to a 2006 agreement brokered by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations agency that allocates radio spectrum and satellite orbits. Romania Switching to DVB-T2

Romania will switch off the analog terrestrial signal and will switch to DVB-T2 digital terrestrial television on June 17, 2015. By the end of April 2014, the procedure of allocating the multiplexes should be completed. Read More

Following the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) call for proposals for a for Next-Generation TV Broadcasting Technologies in March, 10 Initial Physical Layer Proposals were submitted, most of which are based on the DVB-T2 second generation terrestrial standard.
