New Chair for DVB’s technical work on addressable advertising
John Bartlett (BCi Digital) has been appointed as the new Chair of the DVB Technical Module working group on Targeted Advertising (TM-TA). A meetup on the DVB stand at IBC2025 will provide an opportunity to discuss the current status and future direction of DVB’s work in this area.
TM-TA is responsible for the technical aspects of DVB’s specifications for addressable advertising, covering both the development of new specifications and the verification and validation activities that support them. The related Commercial Module group, CM-TA, is chaired by Angelo Pettazzi (Kineton). John and Angelo will together host the IBC meetup.
DVB has published a three-part specification under the name DVB-TA (Targeted Advertising). Part 1 specifies how advert placement opportunities are signalled in broadcast transport streams, while Part 2 describes the interface with the advertising server. Part 3 focuses on the signalling of ad placement opportunities in DVB-DASH streams.

John Bartlett brings extensive experience in broadcast technology and advanced advertising solutions, and will lead the group as it continues its work to ensure DVB’s addressable advertising specifications are both robust and widely implementable.
