DVB member Televes, a global firm specialising in the distribution of TV signals throughout building infrastructures, is set to deploy the first project in Spain for delivering 3DTV services over DVB-C2. Televes leads the DERFO 3DTV project, supported by several universities, the Gradiant Technological Center and Continental Networks. DVB will be present at this year's BroadcastAsia Exhibition & Conference (June 19-22, Singapore) with demos and presentations on DVB-T2 and DVB-C2. At the NAB Show in Las Vegas, technical executives from 13 television broadcast organizations from around the world, including DVB, completed signing a landmark memorandum of understanding (MOU) to officially form the global Future of Broadcast Television (FOBTV) Initiative. Announced during a well-attended general session on FOBTV at the National Association of Broadcasters convention, the MOU builds on the Future of Broadcast TV Summit held in Shanghai, China, in November 2011, where world broadcasting leaders established a framework for cooperation to chart the future course of terrestrial television broadcasting. Last week at the 63rd Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards ceremony at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, DVB received a coveted 2011 Technical/Engineering Emmy Award. Dr Peter Siebert, DVB's executive director, accepted the award on behalf of DVB and all its members for DVB's work on the Active Format Description (AFD) technology. Read More

It became quite a busy day on Monday, 27th February 2011, when more than twenty DVB-C2 experts from all over Europe, as well as from Korea, came together on the invitation of DVB to the RF labs of Kabel Deutschland in Berlin, to test their prototype implementations of the new DVB-C2 standard for the first time. They were setting up their modulators and tuner/demodulators for testing in a realistic cable environment. The DVB-TM Ad-Hoc Group TM-C2 had prepared a detailed schedule and related technical testing configurations for the three days of the Plug Fest. Read More

The DVB-T2 Validation and Verification (V&V) group, coordinated by the Technical Module TM-T2 working group, completed a very successful Plug Fest at the Thomson Broadcast facilities in Conflans Sainte-Honorine, France, on the 6-7th March 2012. The aim of the Plug Fest was to validate the latest version (v1.3.1) of the DVB-T2 specification (currently released as DVB Blue Book A122 on 07/11) and the DVB-T2-MI specification(currently released as TS 102 773 v1.3.1 on 01/12) through the interoperability of independent hardware implementations. This goal was certainly achieved. Read More
