Draft update to DVB Accessibility Implementation Guidelines – feedback invited

The DVB TM-I Accessibility Task Force is updating the Accessibility Implementation Guidelines (DVB BlueBook A185). To facilitate input from interested stakeholders beyond DVB’s membership, a pre-publication draft of the revised document (PDF) has been made publicly available.

This revision aims to help implementers, both of content provision and playback equipment, understand the usage requirements and purposes of accessibility features in audiovisual media streams. While the guidelines focus on how these features can be signalled using DVB technologies, the general descriptions are also relevant in a broader media accessibility context.

What we’d like to know

DVB would particularly welcome feedback on:

  • Whether the descriptions of accessibility features are useful and align with your understanding.
  • Barriers to access that are not addressed by the accessibility features listed in the document.
  • Interest in collaborating on a global reference set of accessibility features for audiovisual media streams.
  • For those working with DVB standards, whether the signalling information is clear and sufficient.

Comments and suggestions are invited, ideally by the end of November 2025. The DVB Project aims to finalize this update in the first quarter of 2026.
