This year’s DVB World, taking place in Munich on 19 and 20 March, will include an exhibition area with live demonstrations of a range of cutting-edge media technologies. Here we provide a brief overview of what you will find on each booth.
German DVB-I Pilot (and ADB2)
The partners in the German DVB-I Pilot (see a full list on the DVB World website) will show the various elements that make up Phase 2 of this major DVB-I proof-of-concept, which targets some of the organizational, regulatory and business questions to be addressed to enable a market launch in Germany. A second demo will show a live implementation of ADB2 (Application Discovery over Broadband) in a DVB/HbbTV context on a smart TV.
DVB-S2X, including beam hopping
EASii IC will demonstrate its DVB-S2X modem, Oxford-2, which includes a return channel modulator. Both modulator and demodulator are beam-hopping capable. Also on show will be the ESA sponsored HTS Free Hopper programme, which is tasked with building a beam-hopping test and demonstration platform.
Volumetric Video and FGS
InterDigital will present demonstrations of Volumetric Video and Film Grain Synthesis, technologies that are the topic of ongoing study missions within the DVB Project, potentially leading to future standardization work.
DVB-I from Italy
Mediaset is bringing a live demonstration of the Italian DVB-I Market Trial, along with a view of the parallel ongoing proof-of-concept that is being used to test potential future features.
SMT and AVS
Peng Cheng Laboratory will demonstrate DVB-I, showing SMT streaming with Multiview content from CCTV and Migu, plus AVS3 video/audio streams running on a HiSilicon/Bohua plug-in set-top box.
5G Broadcast and DVB-I
Qualcomm and Rohde & Schwarz will show the world’s first standards-conforming demo of 5G Broadcast integrated into the DVB-I service framework on a commercial smartphone, using live 5G Broadcast transmissions from the Ismaning broadcast tower.
DVB-I with DVB-NIP
SES will show a complete end-to-end DVB-NIP chain, developed in the context of the verification and validation process for the DVB Native IP broadcasting spec. With the backend running on live transponders at SES’s core 19.2E position, the reception part will be shown at DVB World, receiving DVB-I Service Lists via broadcast together with live and offline DVB-NIP content being received on standard DVB-I clients.
LCEVC decoder
Allegro DVT and V-Nova will jointly present an optimized, ASIC-ready silicon IP decoder implementation for the Low Complexity Enhancement Video Coding (LCEVC) video coding standard.
DVB World 2024 also includes a half-day conference and a full day of in-depth discussions based on an unconference agenda to be developed on site. Register today!
