South Africa: DVB-T2 Trial

20 September 2010

Last week South Africa’s broadcasters M-Net and e.tv launched the country’s first DVB-T2 trial for a select test audience in the Soweto area. The broadcasters have been running digital television trials since 2008, using the Cabinet approved DVB-T standard.

This trial is another sign that South Africa’s broadcast industry is ready to support and start deploying DVB-T2. A formal government decision on the national Digital Terrestrial Television standard is also expected in the coming weeks/months.
