South Africa Confirms DVB-T2

Following the recent recommendation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for DVB-T2 as the DTT standard for the region, South Africa has now officially adopted DVB-T2.   The decision was made in the final Cabinet meeting of 2010 and Communications Minister Roy Padayachie made the formal announcement on January 14th 2011. The decision is widely welcomed by the South African and regional broadcast industry. He also confirmed that the date for analogue switch off is now December 2013 instead of November 2011 as previously stated. This is in line with SADC’s recommendations.   Sources: TechCentral, TechCentral
