Royal decree for HD on DTT

The Spanish government is in the process of preparing a Royal Decree to allow for the introduction of HD services on the DTT platform according to a report in El Pais.
The draft Royal Decree defines the technical requirements for the transmission of HD services on the DTT platform and requires manufacturers to include an HD-tuner in all iDTVs sized 21″ or larger. It also requires broadcasters to obtain a licence from government for authority to transmit HDTV services.
Before it becomes official the Royal decree must be passed to the Advisory Council for Telecommunications and the Information Society (CATSI) for its opinion and then to the Consejo de Estado for approval.
HD/DTT services could begin once the analogue switch-off is completed on the 30th March 2010.
