Qtel to launch DVB-H service in 2007

Qatar’s Qtel will commercially offer Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) in Qatar this year following successful trials since December.
Qtel’s Executive Director (Wireless) Sheikh Fahad Jassim al-Thani is reported to have said that the service provider was in talks with vendors to build a commercial platform for DVB-H.
“We are ready to go commercial. But the only bottleneck is the lack of adequate DVB-enabled handsets.
Sheikh Fahad said television programmes from some 13 popular broadcasters including Aljazeera, CNN, Cartoon Network, and QTV were being beamed across Qtel’s DVB-H network.
