Opposition for free HDTV
Zdenek Duspiva, the head of the body overseeing the country’s transition to digital broadcasting is quoted by Digizone as saying that throughout the world and especially in Western Europe channels in HD format are invariably paid for .
He used this statement to justify his assertion that HD channels should not be offered free of charge in the Czech Republic, during a speech at the Teleinformatika conference in Prague, reports Broadband TV News.
The Czech public broadcaster CT began HD trials last year and plans to offer regular HD transmissions from 2009. Its HD offer will, at least initially, be delivered by cable, satellite and IPTV.
