Nigeria Looking for DVB-T2 Operators

In order to meet its June 2015 switch-over deadline, Nigeria invites the broadcast industry for the expression of interest to deploy and operate a DVB-T2 network.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the regulatory authority for the broadcasting industry in Nigeria, will award 3 broadcasting licences, one of which is to be reserved for the infrastructure entity that will mainly be carved out of the existing Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). A second licence is now to be awarded through a bidding process to stimulate competition in the broadcasting signal distribution market. The third licence will be issued at some time in the future based on market development. The licence awarded shall be for an initial period of 15 years renewable for another 10 years.

The Commission invites Expression of Interest (EoI) from interested, suitably qualified, experienced and competent local and/or international entities to roll-out and operate a national broadcasting signal distribution network. The Licensee shall deploy a system consisting of DVB-T2 and MPEG4.

Full details can be found in the Expression of Interest document on the right.
