New DTT broadcasters announced


The Communications Authority (AgCom) has published the list of broadcasters expected to receive a licence for DTT services. The regulator received a total of 25 bids for nine DTT licences.
The licence holders are expected to be Jetix with a kid’s service, NBC Universal with a documentary channel, Alphabet consortium with an educational channel, Rete Blu with a social service, Class Editori with a news service, Cartoon Network and Turner Entertainment with Boomerang. Further licences will be allocated to either the Disney Company or AirPlus TV for a pay-DTT service.
Capacity for these services will be provided from 5 of the 6 existing DTT multiplexes. Each multiplex will make approximately 9.5 Mbits/s of capacity available.
