New channel on the DTT platform

TV Cabo and financial group Controlinveste are reported by Rapid TV News to wish to partner with each other in the creation of a fifth national free-to-air channel on the future DTV platform.
Government plans for the new platform are still being formulated and a decision on what channels will be made available has not yet been released.
Rapid TV also reports that entrepreneur Francisco Pinto Balsemâo, a former Portuguese prime minister, has said that he wants an association to be established among the Portuguese broadcasters SIC, RTP and TVI to work on the creation of a future HDTV channel.
Portugal Telecom Multimedia, the multimedia division of Portugal Telecom (PT) is also said to want to do business in this project.
