08 January 2007

Crown Castle International has announced today that its subsidiary, Modeo, has launched a live commercial quality “beta” mobile TV service in New York City. The service will be available initially only to selected users equipped with a Modeo Mobile TV Smartphone, supplied by HTC of Hong Kong. Where this service differs from other commercial trials is that the group of several hundred people selected as the first users includes employees of wireless carriers, reporters, industry and financial analysts, and content providers. The service is seen as the precursor to a full commercial launch in New York City, followed by a roll out to the rest of the USA.

The service includes live video content from well known brands such as Fox News, Discovery Channel and others, as well as streaming audio content from Music Choice. “Modeo is pleased to have this opportunity to showcase our progress toward delivering on the promise of mobile TV” commented Michael Ramke, Modeo’s president. “By moving beyond technical trial efforts and into true commercial grade network service, we continue to position Modeo as an integral player in the dynamic mobile TV space.”
