Ministry allocates €19.3 million to help DTT introduction


The Spanish Ministry for Industry has allocated €19.3 million to speed up DTT implementation in Spain. This is in addition to the €1.7 billion allocated in the 2008 budget for the promotion of telecommunications and the “Information Society”.
Commercial broadcaster would like the government to invest even more money as they believe that digitising even a single existing channel will cost €150 million. This takes into account the provision of additional content as well as extending coverage.
Analogue switch-off is set to commence in 2008 and be completed in April 2010.
