Mediacom still expects to launch DVB-H service
Despite over a year having passed since the initial announcement Global Mediacom has reiterated plans to launch a DVB-H service. The service is to be launched through its subsidiary Tren Mobile TV in collaboration with Nokia.
Trial services are already taking place and have been on air in Jakarta since the 20th February 2009.initially using a 0.5 kW transmitter. The power will be increased to 1.2 to 3 kW during the trial.
The trail aims to increase understanding of the technology, viewer usage and possible business models. At present viewers can access four TV programme services, RCTI, TPI, Global TV and Infokom.
An official DVB-H licence will be requested following a successful trial.
