Media Law amendments approved

Czech president Vaclav Klaus has approved amendments to the media law, which will pave the way for the countries transition from analogue to digital television.
The amendments which come into effect at the beginning of 2008 see that all parties currently holding an analogue licence will be awarded with one allowing digital transmission. The award is dependant on them meeting specific criteria. The six companies, which had their digital licences withdrawn last year, will be issued with ‘compensatory’ licences.
The analogue switch off, target date, is now set as October the 10th, 2010.
