Government consults on mobile TV

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce has opened a public consultation on mobile television, which is seen as an attempt to speed up the launch of DVB-H mobile TV services in Spain.
The consultation seeks the views of all interested parties in the mobile TV field so that the government can better understand the needs of the new market.
The regulatory authorities are expected to award a single multiplex with limited coverage initially, which will be increased later in 2010, when more spectrum becomes available.
Mobile TV pilots have already taken place in many Spanish towns and cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Gijon and Alcazar San Juan. The consultation closes on April 26th, 2007 and it is hoped that it will pave the way for the launch of mobile TV services by the end of the year.
