Fifth free-to-air TV licence now official


Portugal will issue a new free-to-air television licence for the creation of a national channel to compete with the country’s four existing channels, Reuters reports, Minister of Parliament Affairs Augusto Santos Silva as saying.
The tender will take place in 180 days after a separate tender to operate the country’s digital television network has been issued. No issue date was given for the first tender but it is expected during 2008.The minister went on to say that Portugal hopes to switch entirely from analogue to digital transmission by 2012.
