TV Connect 2018

DVB will be represented by a number of speakers at TV Connect 2018 and will also have an exhibition booth (E40) featuring demonstrations of DVB-DASH and the HbbTV OpApp.

Demos

The DVB booth can be found at E40. Feel free to drop by and talk about our exciting work around IP delivery, OTT services, targeted advertising and more. We will have two great demos: DVB-DASH and HbbTV OpApp.

DVB-DASH

The DVB-DASH specification, a subset of MPEG-DASH, defines the delivery of television content via HTTP adaptive streaming. It now includes the extensions required for the delivery of UHD content. At TV Connect we will demonstrate the use of DVB-DASH to deliver High Dynamic Range content (using Hybrid Log Gamma).

HbbTV OpApp

DVB works closely with HbbTV and is pleased to be able to offer one of the first demonstrations of the new Operator App functionality.

Building on HbbTV 2, the Operator Application specification allows TV service providers, in partnership with TV manufacturers, to provide an operator-branded experience as an application on television sets. This application acts as a “Virtual Set-Top Box”, providing effectively all the functionality of a set-top box (STB) directly in an HbbTV-compatible TV. The demo will be presented by Martin Prins and Rick Hindriks of Dutch research organization TNO, one of the supporters of the HbbTV Operator App initiative.
