DVB specifications are commercially driven and maximize the use of common solutions across broadcast – satellite, cable, terrestrial – and broadband networks. DVB-I is set to provide a robust and user-friendly experience for linear TV over broadband; as 5G is an access technology, DVB-I could have a valuable role to play as a service layer. DVB’s distribution technologies, too, could be useful complements to other 5G access networks.
