EU’s Viviane Reding in talks with Brazil and Argentina on Digital TV

EU Commissioner Viviane Reding is set to visit Brazil and Argentina with a group of executives from Nokia, Philips, ST, Siemens and DVB to persuade the governments to choose the DVB digital system for the delivery of mobile and fixed television.
The system is already used in Europe, Australia and parts of Asia as well as being the adopted system in many other countries including India and South Africa.
In November Argentina’s public works ministry decided to adopt the same standard Brazil chooses,  reversing the earlier decision to adopt the US ATSC system.
The Brazilian government has now brought forward the introduction of DTV to September 7th 2006 but is still to choose a system.
