Estonia launches DTT services


DTT services were officially launched on the 15th December 2006 in Estonia.
This makes Estonia the first country in the world to launch DTT using the MPEG-4 AVC compression standard and the first in the region to launch DTT.
Tallinn the capital city and the area covered by the Valgjarve transmitter brings the DTT coverage, at the start of DTT service, to around 50% of the population. ZUUMtv provide the new service, which consists of 18 Pay-DTT programmes.
By the time the DTT platform is completed, 22-24 television programme services will be made available, of which 6-8 will be free-to-air.
Coverage is expected to be extended to 95% of the population by September 2007 and the initial 2 multiplexes will be increased to 3 by the end of 2007.
