DVB-T2 – On the Move
Last month DVB-T2 has been on the move again!
DVB-T2 Live in the UK:
Freeview has confirmed that its new HD DTT service is on track to reach 50% of the UK by the time the World Cup gets underway in June. Channel 4 HD and in Wales S4C Clirlun will join existing channels BBC HD and ITV1 HD
Although HD signals have been present on the UK terrestrial system since last December, this announcement (30th March) marks the official launch of the service. From the 31st March around 4.5 million homes were covered by Freeview HD for the first time. This includes the cities of Birmingham, Leeds and Cardiff. HD DTT services are being made available on a region by region basis as the spectrum space becomes available, following analogue switch off in each area, a process which completes in 2012.

DVB-T2 Trial in Austria:
The Austrian broadcast network operator Oesterreichische Rundfunksender (ORS) is trialling the DVB-T2 transmission standard on its DTT platform. ORF1, ORF2 HD, HD Radio Ö1 as well as commercial broadcasters are expected to take part in the trial which is being broadcast in HD on UHF channel 65 from the Kahlenberg transmitting station near Vienna. The trial which began on the 12th April and will continue for 12 months aims to discover the optimum choice of parameters to be used with the DVB-T2 standard.

DVB-T2 Demo in the USA:
From April 12 to 15, 2010, the DVB Project was again present at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. 2010 marked the first ever end-to-end DVB-T2 demo in the USA on the DVB booth and attracted strong interest from a wide group of NAB delegates.
The demo showed the complete UK Freeview HD setup, from BBC content, transmitted using the actual Freeview DVB-T2 parameters to the commercially available set-top boxes from Pace and Humax. A Teamcast modulator, Enensys modulator and a Rohde & Schwarz TV analyser were also part of the set-up.
