DVB seeks responses to middleware survey

The DVB technical working group with responsibility for developing and maintaining middleware specifications, TM-MIS, is conducting a study mission on Advanced Middleware for Interactive Services. The background is set out on the DVB website as follows:

“In January 2008, coinciding with the transfer of activities from TM-TAM to TM-MIS, a Study Mission into Middleware for Interactive Services was launched. The chairman of the DVB Technical Module indicated that the intent was to take a totally fresh view of the subject, not restricted by existing software technologies used for interactive services in DVB or TV in general. The study mission would be an “open radar” before any future Commercial Requirements were developed.

The deliverables were to include a comprehensive table listing available software technologies  including for each technology:

  • where it is used
  • why it is used
  • what features it has

The 76th Technical Module meeting in June 2008 agreed that the survey should also be made available outside the DVB Project, allowing non-members to contribute to this information-gathering exercise. Completed surveys should be returned to the editor of the document, whose email address can be found on the first page.”

You can download the survey from the TM-MIS homepage.
