DVB Scene 64: Remo Vogel on DVB’s role, Emily Dubs on 5G and DVB, John Moulding on DVB-I
DVB’s new chair Remo Vogel features on the cover of the September 2024 issue DVB-Scene magazine, now available for download (PDF). On page 5, Remo sets out his initial priorities in his new role, with a call for the organization to “think more creatively” about its future.
On pages 8–9, DVB’s Head of Technology, Emily Dubs, describes how DVB’s offer has evolved over recent years to encompass:
“…a modern, standards-based approach that enriches resilient broadcast systems with well-rounded IP-centric solutions, including for the delivery of OTT services, whether over broadband or broadcast; and those networks can be combined and/ or bridged with 3GPP technologies in a flexible and seamless way.”
DVB-I is a central element in the evolved ecosystem she describes. On pages 10–11, John Moulding brings us insights from several media industry players around Europe as they reflect on the current status and future potential of DVB-I.
“As with most standards, there is technology, there is strategy, and there is policy. DVB-I ticks the first box, and each market must decide how to handle the rest. But from what we see already, DVB-I has established itself as a part of the discussion on the future of TV distribution.”
