DVB Highlights at IBC 2006

06 September 2006

Once again at IBC, DVB technology is taking centre stage – the big story this year is mobile TV with products and services based on DVB-H technology to be found throughout the exhibition halls. The Mobile Zone is the focus of attention for those interested in mobile TV, but the entire RAI exhbition centre is being covered by a DVB-H multiplex provided by the DVB Project with support from SIDSA, National Grid Wireless and Mier Comunicaciones. Find more information about DVB-H at IBC, including the Guide to DVB-H @ IBC 2006 on DVB-H.org.

As usual at IBC there is a strong showing for interactive TV, with applications based on MHP continuing to prove popular. The DVB Project Office has compiled both a Guide to MHP @ IBC 2006 as well as an MHP Update giving details about deployments of MHP around the world and the latest developments with the specifications, licensing, testing, etc… Both of these documents can be found at www.mhp.org.

The DVB Pavilion (1.481) hosts a number of demonstrations and product showcases:

  • Coding Technologies promotes the latest aacPlus audio codec implemented both in an IPTV set-top box and in a DVB-H receiver.
  • DTS is cooperating with Coding Technologies in showing an aacPlus / DTS transcoder solution for high efficiency broadcast and reproduction of multi-channel audio in the home.
  • CellMetric shows its novel terrestrial and mobile video network emulator Modus 3.
  • Thomson demonstrates an end-to-end IPTV system based on DVB specifications.
