DVB-H available in Qatar for the Asian Games


Qatar is to be the first country in the entire Middle East region to provide digital video broadcasting to handheld mobile terminals according to Qtel CEO Dr Nasser Marafin.
Qtel has already built the network to deliver TV to mobiles via DVB-H and the service is to be available on a trial basis during the 15th Asian Games in Doha.
The service will be operational between the 1st and 15th of December and available to a select group of customers. It is expected that a total of 1,380 DVB-H enabled handsets will in use during the games.
A commercial DVB-H service is planned to become operational in Qatar during the first quarter of 2007.
