DTT services to launch in 2009

Algeria expects to launch DTT services by the end of 2009, according to presentations on the digital transition at a recent seminar on the subject in Algiers.
The new service will provide viewers with better sound and image quality as well as enabling access to HDTV programming.
Abdelmalek Houyou the managing director of the state owned network operator TDA called for the creation of a strategic national committee to lead the digital switchover. Although most European countries will make the DTT transition by 2015 it was said that this date would be delayed for some Arab and African countries until nearer 2020.
