DTT launch in Estonia on target for December 2006


Estonian broadcasting transmission company AS Levira and Estonia’s leading cable TV operator AS Starman have agreed on a joint venture to be named Eesti Digitaaltelevisioni AS (Estonian Digital Television Ltd.)
The new company will provide Digital Terrestrial Television services starting in December 2006, especially to those who are outside the reach of the cable network.
The service offered by Eesti Digitaaltelevisioni AS will initially reach 63% of the population at launch and 96% of the population by the end of 2007 and consist of 18 pay channels with an additional 3-6 free-to-air channels becoming available in 2006-2007.
Levira has already started the roll out of 3 country wide MPEG-4 DTT networks which are planned for completion by the end of 2008.
