Digital Switch Over criteria issued

The Italian regulator AGCOM has released more details of its digital switchover plan.
Five new multiplexes will be made available after ASO completes in 2012.
The five new multiplexes join the three that are already operating.
Three of the new multiplexes will be reserved for new entrants to the market according to the plan drawn up in consultation with the European Commission.
Some of the additional spectrum needed will be made available by the use of Single Frequency Networks instead of using different frequencies for different parts of the country.
Competition rules have also been strengthened to prevent the domination of the DTT market by big companies.
The full details of the new rules can be accessed on the Agcom website at the following link. L’AGCOM approva i criteri per la completa digitalizzazione delle reti televisive nazionali
