Digital dividend auction in Q2 2010
The German telecommunications regulator BNA is to hold a mobile frequency auction, which will include digital dividend frequencies, in the second quarter of 2010.
The digital dividend will consist of 60MHz just above 800MHz. The 60MHz slot will be divided into six blocks of 2x5MHz however controversy is already growing about who will be able to bid for licences. These frequencies could be used for providing mobile broadband services in rural areas that will close the gaps in current broadband coverage.
The European Commission recently raised complaints about the proposed organisation of and restrictions to the biding.
