Cyprus selects Digital Headend

Public service broadcaster Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) has selected Harmonic Inc.’s IP-based digital terrestrial transmission technologies and related services to support its digital rollout. The Harmonic DVB-T headend will be located in Nicosia and the digital TV service of four digital terrestrial television and radio channels will be carried over a microwave transmission network to mountain top sites and then broadcast via DVB-T to viewers.
According to the press release the equipment is a comprehensive video delivery system and provides a seamless upgrade path from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) transmission.
