The latest stage of the ASO programmes has increased the number of citizens covered by DTT services by 1 million. The areas affected by the recent changes are Andalucía, Castilla y León and the Basque Country. In total DTT only coverage has now been extended to 5.3 million Spaniards.
With this, the first phase of the switch over, some regions have yet to make the change because they did not meet the appropriate technical conditions laid down as a condition for it to take place.
Although these problems should be overcome it is expect that recent reports that the ASO date could come forward by two months are unlikely to be fulfilled.
The next switchover stage will take place in December and the last one on April 3, 2010.
National DTT coverage currently stands at 96.3% of population
