DVB-H Trials Planned for Australia

At an ABE/Free TV Engineering Conference this month in Sydney, plans were announced for trials of the DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) transmission standard. Subject to Australian Broadcasting Authority approval, the trials will commence in December. They will be conducted by Broadcast Australia subsidiary The Bridge Networks and partners under a scientific transmission licence. Trial transmissions will be broadcast on UHF Channel 29 from Sydney’s Gore Hill to handsets employing the Symbian Operating System. Transmission testing will be carried out with equipment from German manufacturer AdCoCom.
