Call for patents essential to DVB-SIS

DVB is inviting those holding patents (or patent applications) essential to the recently approved DVB Single Illumination System – DVB-SIS – to attend an initial meeting to foster the formation of a licensing programme. DVB encourages the creation of such patent pools as they provide greater market certainty on licensing terms and enable earlier market launch of the technology concerned.

Approved by the DVB Steering Board earlier this year, DVB-SIS allows for the combination of DVB-T/T2 contribution and DVB-S/S2/S2X distribution in a single satellite beam. It will be published as an ETSI Technical Specification in due course.

Companies or individuals who have a well-founded belief that they hold a patent essential to DVB-SIS technology are invited to contact DVB’s Legal Director Carter Eltzroth (eltzroth@dvb.org) as soon as possible. The first meeting is scheduled for 4 July 2018, with a follow-up to take place on 13 September, on the fringes of IBC 2018 in Amsterdam.
