DVB and SVTA agree to collaborate on technologies for high-quality video experiences

The DVB Project has signed a formal liaison agreement with the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA), reflecting a desire on the part of both organizations to collaborate closely on developing specifications for video distribution.

The SVTA is a global technical association addressing critical challenges in streaming video. It aims to help improve the streaming video experience at scale, working across three main areas: educating the industry on the technical nature of the issues, providing a neutral forum for collaboration, and publishing documentation that defines technical solutions. The DASH Industry Forum, with which DVB had collaborated over several years, became part of the SVTA in July 2024.

“We believe that by working closer with DVB,” said Jason Thibeault, CEO of SVTA, “we can help improve the reliability, scalability, and resilience of video infrastructures and services that deliver both broadcast and streaming content. Through collaboration on standardsĀ and specifications, our two organizations can work to ensure a consistent path for the future technologies responsible for providing a high-quality video experience to viewers around the world.”

Remo Vogel, Chair of the DVB Project, said: “Cooperation between DVB and the SVTA unites the leading authority in global broadcast standards with the leader on OTT and streaming innovation. Together, we are working on the foundations for seamless, high-quality TV experiences, whether delivered via broadcast or streaming. DVB’s hybrid technology approach provides streaming companies with a powerful opportunity to reach hundreds of millionsĀ of households worldwide, unlocking significant potential for market growth.”

The organizations will exchange regularly on topics of common interest, whether via liaison documents or, as required, joint meetings.
