DVB-I, Native IP and much more at IBC2022

The DVB Project Office is working with several DVB Members to prepare exciting technology demonstrations for the upcoming IBC2022 tradeshow. The three-year break caused by the COVID pandemic means there are many new things to show and discuss, with two principal solutions in the spotlight: DVB-I and DVB-NIP.

The DVB booth, in Hall 1 as usual (1.B73), is hosting multi-partner demonstrations that will showcase the significant progress made on the organization’s suite of IP-centric specifications. With both DVB-I and DVB Native IP moving closer to commercial deployment, DVB Members have shown great enthusiasm to participate in the respective demos, where the idea is to highlight the benefits of the specifications in relation to a range of relevant use cases.

DVB-I

Broadcasters in both Germany and Italy are preparing the ground for major pilots of DVB-I, with the aim of showing how it can underpin the transition from broadcast to broadband-centred media distribution. The demos on the DVB booth will involve many of the technology and service providers involved in those activities.

Visitors to the DVB booth will see how DVB-I can bring greater reach and prominence for broadcaster services on a range of devices, how quality and distribution costs can be optimized, and how the technology can be used to fast-track the launch of innovative new services.

Multiple DVB-I clients and services will be shown, including a live feed from the forthcoming German DVB-I Pilot. (More information will be provided ahead of IBC2022.)

DVB Native IP

A second group of demo partners are collaborating to demonstrate the benefits of DVB’s recently finalized solution for native IP broadcasting, DVB-NIP. With an initial focus on satellite, the demo at IBC will show how DVB-NIP can benefit the market and enable new business opportunities.

The new solution creates an opportunity for standards-based delivery of OTT services over satellite, enabling service providers and telcos to deliver content to any device in any location. Initial use cases are likely to include feeding public hotspots or transportation (including flights and maritime traffic), as well as delivering educational content, especially to remote areas.

Conference session

DVB is pleased to collaborate once again with the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society to present a special conference session at IBC2022. Free to attend, this session will feature contributions from both DVB’s Chair, Peter MacAvock, and Head of Technology, Emily Dubs, as well as from several well-known industry experts who are active in DVB’s work.

DVB DRINKS

Everyone involved or interested in DVB’s work, whether from a Member company or not, is warmly invited to join us for a drink and a chat on the opening evening of IBC.
