DVB Receives Emmy Award

Last week at the 63rd Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards ceremony at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, DVB received a coveted 2011 Technical/Engineering Emmy Award. Dr Peter Siebert, DVB’s executive director, accepted the award on behalf of DVB and all its members.

The Emmy Award was awarded in recognition of DVB’s “outstanding work in the Pioneering Development and Deployment of Active Format Description (AFD) Technology and System”. AFD allows the broadcaster to control the aspect ratio on screens of different resolutions.

Launched in 1948, The Technology and Engineering Awards honor development and innovation in broadcast technology and recognize companies, organisations and individuals for breakthroughs in technology that have a significant effect on television engineering.

Because DVB’s standardisation work is inherently a joint effort, other companies and organisations also received the Technology & Engineering Emmy, including ATSC, SMPTE, DTG – Digital TV Group, NBC Universal, Ericsson, Miranda Technologies and CEA.

Congratulations to all winners, DVB members and all individual contributors to the AFD standard!
