Analogue Off and Digital On for Namibian Capital

Friday 18th February 2005  saw the official launch of  Africa ‘s first commercial DVB-T service in Namibia . The technical switch-over took place on February 4th, when the analogue pay TV service was switched off and subscribers seamlessly migrated to the digital service.  “We literally in a time-frame of 20 minutes switched-off analogue and switched on digital” said Seven Foster, DTT specialist with signal distributor Orbicom.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting in Namibia, Mr Nangolo Mbumba, said at the opening ceremony that he was glad that MultiChoice, a leading digital satellite operator in Africa, chose Windhoek to launch their terrestrial service.
