Austria wants to accelerate HDTV take-up

Austria wants to accelerate the take up of HDTV receivers, by offering a purchasing subsidy.
The subsidy would have to be in line with EU rules and RTR want to apply to the Commission for a change in Austria’s digitalisation fund regulations.
At present the guidelines only allow financial incentives for viewers who switch from analogue to digital television.
ORF wants to launch its planned HDTV service in time for this years European Soccer Championship and any financial incentive helping viewers to obtain HDTV receivers would be beneficial.
