DTT coverage milestone reached
Coverage of the first Czech DTT multiplex, operated by public service broadcaster CT, will reach 75% of the population by the 31st August. Currently the coverage stands at 52% and to increase its reach, the analogue terrestrial service of CT2 will be switched off at two transmission sites, Ještěd and Černá. The Černá transmitter will be switched of first on the 31st July followed by Ještěd, which goes offline as the new digital transmitters are switched on.
At the moment three more DTT multiplexes are on air, but their coverage is not as great as for multiplex 1.
Most of the multiplexes use MPEG-2 video compression apart from one operated by telecom operator O2 which uses MPEG-4 (H.264, AVC).
