Analogue switch off set for 2011

The Minister of Culture and Communications, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, has announced that France will end its analogue terrestrial television services on 1 January 2011. Analogue switch-off is expected to take place region-by-region beginning in 2007.
In January, President Jacques Chirac had called for the release of frequencies used for analogue terrestrial television. He would like these channels to be used for new digital services whose deployment is already being limited by the lack of free spectrum.
