Digital dividend to be used for mobile broadband

The German Federal Council has approved the proposal to use the digital dividend for mobile broadband services, reports Telecompaper.
The decision to devote the spectrum to mobile broadband is expected to support the German federal government’s target for nationwide availability of at least 1 Mbps broadband services by 2010 and 75 percent coverage of 50 Mbps by 2014. The German telecommunications regulator BNA can now start preparations for the digital dividend licence auction, which is expected to take place at the end of this year or in the first quarter of 2010. The decision of the federal council was met by approval from German ICT association Bitkom and Vodafone Germany.
