RAI launches DVB-T2 HDTV trial

Italian public broadcaster RAI has initiated the first Super High Definition transmissions using the new DVB-T2 standard for DTT from its Eremo Broadcasting Centre in Turin.
DVB-T2 offers between 30-50% increased capacity gain compared with the DVB-T standard.
The Super High Definition 4k channel will occupy most of the bit capacity of the DVB-T2, 8MHz channel and is expected to become available on the market in about ten years time.
Last September, RAI, together with Japan’s NHK and the UK’s BBC, won the “IBC Special Award” for the Super High Vision (SHV) project.
