DVB-T Hierarchical modulation trialed by 3 Italia and RRD

Mobile operator 3 Italia and network operator Reti Radiotelevisive Digitali (RRD) have successfully completed hierarchical modulation trials on 3-Italia’s DVB-H network, according to Broadband TV news. The aim of the trial was to test the possibility of transmitting several standard and high definition TV channels alongside the existing TV channels on the DVB-H mobile TV service.
The tests showed that an additional 4 SDTV channels could be transmitted alongside the existing mobile service. Using Hierarchical modulation in future will enable 3 Italia to transmit two separate data streams, one for the existing DVB-H service and the other for terrestrial DVB-T channels.
