Analogue switch-off begins in Sardinia

The analogue channels of public service broadcaster Rai Due and Mediaset’s Retequattro will be shut off in the Cagliari area (Sardinia) on 1 March 2007.
After this, these channels will only be available on the Digital Terrestrial and Satellite platforms.
To ease the transition the Italian Government is providing subsidies for the acquisition of digital decoders and it estimated that 560,000 Sardinians who are regularly paying the TV license fee would qualify for a E70 discount on the purchase of a DTT box. While announcing these subsidies, the president of the DGTVi consortium, Andrea Ambrogetti, also revealed that Retequattro is to launch HD (High Definition) trials.
