Consultation issued on use of VHF and UHF Digital Dividend

South Africa’s Minister of Communications is looking to speed up the issue of mobile spectrum. The ministry opened two public consultations on the issue. The first is on directing Icasa to ‘fast track’ the finalisation of the methodology for issuing spectrum in the 2.6 GHz bands, and the second looks at how to use the digital dividend spectrum in the TV frequency bands 174-230 MHz and 470-790 MHz. Comments are due within 30 days. Icasa this week released a new spectrum plan and is aiming to accept bids for new licences by March.
