Mobile spectrum and “Digital Dividend” gets 11 bidders
Eleven operators have placed their bids in the tender for 270 MHz of spectrum in Spain. The bidders include Vodafone, Telefonica, Orange, Ono, Jazztel, Telecom Castilla la Mancha, R, Telecable de Asturias, Opnatel and Cota.
Spain is auctioning 58 blocks in the 800 MHz (Digital Dividend), 900 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequency bands.
The auction aims to promote new investments in wireless access networks, increase mobile broadband services coverage especially in rural and remote areas to reduce the “digital divide” and encourage innovation and competition in the sector. The tender winner is expected to be announced on or around the 30th June.
